The Lady of All Nations
The 56 apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to a Dutch woman in her home in Amsterdam, Holland from 1945 to 1959 were finally given full approval by the Roman Catholic Church in 1996, after almost 40 years of intensive scrutiny by Church authorities. They were delivered to the visionary, Ida Peerdeman in a unique way. The woman, though caught up in ecstasy and unable to avert her eyes from the ravishing beauty of Our Lady, was still able to communicate with those who were present with her while the apparition was taking place. In this way, everything she said in describing the things she was seeing, and as the words spoken by Our Lady were being said to her, she repeated verbatim to those in her company who wrote everything down precisely as she told it to them. Thus we have the entire story and Messages of the Virgin of Amsterdam without anything left out, changed, or edited.
The apparitions occurred in the home of Ida, and took the form of a vision. In the visions, Ida saw Our Lady as the focal point, although in the background behind the Virgin Ida could also see scenes, maps, and other imagery that the Virgin would refer to in order to illustrate the urgent communications God was affording mankind through the intercession of His Mother.
The apparitions do not tell us anything new. They are at their root the same Message Our Lady has given us throughout history, particularly at LASALETTE, FATIMA, GARABANDAL, and AKITA. Actually, the extraordinary events at Akita, in Japan, beginning in 1973 and ending in 1981, were the catalyst for the Church to finish Her study and make Her final ruling on the Amsterdam apparitions. What is different about the Messages of Amsterdam, however, is how they were presented. Like all the other authentic apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary that have been granted to mankind, they involve the entire world, and each person in particular. That's right, that means me AND YOU, regardless of your religious convictions.
Almost all the prophecies uttered by the Blessed Virgin at Amsterdam have unfailingly come to pass. The two remaining "biggies", that of the final Marian Dogma, and the world-wide acceptance and veneration (NOT WORSHIP) of the Virgin under the title of Our Lady of All Nations, are the capstone of the events and will be fulfilled just as surely as the minor prophecies were. In this regard, Amsterdam prepared the way for Garabandal and Akita to refocus the attention of the Church and the world to the apocalyptic events ready to occur now, in our times; they are at the very threshold of our future.
During the twenty-eighth apparition of Our Lady to Ida, on March 4, 1951, the Virgin appeared to her exactly as depicted in the following picture. Our Lady instructed Ida to memorize everything, and to relate all that she was seeing, so that the picture could be made accurately to the last detail. The image is of Our Lady standing on the globe of the world, her feet resting on Holland, the country from which these revelations were emanating to mankind. Her back is to the Cross of Her Son, Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of the World. Mary reminds us that She Herself stood at the Foot of the Cross, as recorded in Scripture, and fulfilled the prophecy of Simeon, also recorded in Scripture, of the role of CO-OPERATION that She would play in offering Her Divine Son to the Eternal Father for the redemption of mankind, represented at the bottom of the image by the varied sheep. The three rays spilling from Her hands are the graces of Redemption, Light, and Peace which will be granted to everyone who venerates this Image daily, and recites the prayer that was given to go along with the Image. .
"You will have a picture made of this," Our Lady instructed Ida, "You will propagate it at the same time as the Prayer I gave you....The prayer is to be translated into numerous languages...You, child of men, you cannot grasp the full significance of all of this... I wish to be known as the Lady of All Nations. And I want this in these times, NOW. That is why I desired that the Prayer, with the Picture be propagated in the languages most commonly spoken, and that It be recited every day...
"I am going to tell you why I present Myself in this form. I am the Lady standing before the Cross. The head, the hands, the feet are similar to those of men, but the rest of the body bears evidence to the Holy Spirit. Because the Son came by the Will of the Father, and BECAUSE NOW IT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO MUST COME INTO THE WORLD. AND I COME IN ORDER THAT THIS WILL BE PRAYED FOR....I am standing on the globe BECAUSE THIS CONERNS THE ENTIRE WORLD.
"...The spirit of the lie has infiltrated so deeply that is is urgent that what I ask be done. The entire world is given over to corruption. That is why THE SON SENDS ME, THE LADY OF ALL NATIONS, WHO ONCE WAS MARY."
During the thirtieth apparition on April 1, 1951, the Blessed Virgin made the purpose of Her visitations much clearer:
"I wish to be THE LADY OF ALL NATIONS... Not of one people in particular, but of ALL peoples. Listen, because I want to explain to you the meaning of this. Try to understand what the Message contains.
"I am standing before the Cross; the head, the hands, the feet are of the nature of man; the rest of My body appertains to the Nature of the Spirit.
"Why do I present myself thus? My body has been taken away as was the Son. NOW, I am standing before the Cross, and it is as the Sacrificer, for I have suffered with My Son; suffered SPIRITUALLY, but also, above all, suffered COPORALLY.
"THIS DOGMA WILL BE HOTLY CONTESTED! PROCLAIM IT, MY CHILD. You will also say: THIS WILL BE THE FINAL MARIAN DOGMA....
"Theology must give way to the affairs of My Son."
In referring to Herself as "the Sacrificer", Our Lady means Her passive participation in the Passion of Her God-Son, Jesus Christ, by assenting to have Her Son offered as the necessary Sacrifice to the Father for sinners. In this way, she re-enacted the role of Abraham who was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac to God at God's request, in the Old Testament. In Our Lady's case, however, God was not going to prevent the Sacrifice of His Son, and She was there at the foot of the Cross suffering miserably, but willingly, in order to bring about the redemption of the world. Mary's cooperation with Christ in redeeming the world is clearly laid out in Sacred Scripture, not to mention in the past 2,000 years of Sacred Tradition (also mentioned in Scripture.) Although this doctrine is enough to make a Protestant suicidal, it also has its opponents within the lay and clerical audiences of the Roman Catholic Church Itself. This is why the Mother of God warns that the journey to the eventual proclamation of this fifth and final Marian Dogma will be tumultuous.
During the thirty-second apparition on April 29, 1951, Our Lady more clearly refined the final dogma to be declared regarding Her Role in mankind's salvation:
"I am standing here as the Lady of All Nations. I come at this time for the express purpose of showing you that I wish to be the Lady of All Nations.
"I come in the capacity of CO-REDEMPTRIX AND ADVOCATE. All the rest follows from this.
"Repeat, then, after Me: THE NEW DOGMA WILL BE THE DOGMA OF THE CO-REDEMPTRIX. I EMPHASIZE THE 'CO-'
"I have already said how much controversy this Dogma will arouse. NEVERTHELESS, THE CHURCH OF ROME, WHICH WILL HAVE A LONG STRUGGLE OVER IT, WILL FINALLY PROMULGATE IT. The Church of Rome will be able to face up to the opposition...What I want, and what I expect from you, is nothing other than to push the Church and the theologians to commit themselves to this struggle.
"FOR THE LADY WAS CHOSEN TO GIVE THE REDEEMER TO THE WORLD. NOW THE FATHER, THE SON, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT DESIRES THAT SHE RETURN INTO THIS WORLD IN THE ROLE OF CO-REDEMPTRIX AND ADVOCATE...
"THE WORLD IS IN A STATE OF CORRUPTION; IT IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE SUPERFICIAL; IT NO LONGER KNOWS WHERE IT IS GOING. IT IS BECAUSE OF THIS THAT THE FATHER SENDS ME IN THE CAPACITY OF ADVOCATE IN ORDER TO ANNOUNCE THE COMING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
"The world will not save itself through violence; THE WORLD WILL BE SAVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT...
"...I dictated to you the very simple Prayer addressed to the Father and the Son. See to it that it is spread throughout the whole world among all peoples. ALL PEOPLES HAVE A RIGHT TO IT.
"THE WORLD WILL CHANGE, I ASSURE YOU!"
